It’s Feeling like Fall in Florida!!

Fall is here!! Finally! I’m not gonna lie…I am thrilled for the cooler temps around here. I love year-round warm weather
in Florida, but sometimes I miss the different seasons. Plus football season?! Fuhgetaboutit. Hook ‘em Horns \\m//!
I love me some October because candy corn is the norm, pumpkin pie shakes are plentiful, and my little guy
“practices” wearing his Halloween costume EVERYDAY.
So let’s get this show on the road! First stop is decorating with the Fall/Halloween favorites. The other day I made my cute little ghosty. That got the ball rolling. Next I thought
I’d fall-i-fy the dining room table.
This was my “everyday” look for my table this summer:

The look was simple and easy. (My kids put stuff all over the table usually, so I didn’t mess with too much decor while the older one was home everyday.) And I love the silver bowl. It was the fruit bowl that sat on my mom’s kitchen table when she was a girl. (The apples aren’t real. You can tell by the little teeth marks that my 18 month old checked.)

But it was time for a change. Bring it!
As usual, I was combing through (free) magazines for a little inspiration. I happened to snag a Pottery Barn catalog on my last trip to the mall (who am I kidding…I made a specific stop in there for the catalog), and they SERIOUSLY have great ideas. Always.
I love all the ideas of filling glass containers with items you may already have like leaves, acorns, or pictures of family. I wanted to make my own version for the table, but I wasn’t sure I had the “ingredients” to do it.
Turn the page, Beth.
And there it was…my answer:
Image from Pottery Barn
A wreath…with magnolia leaves…painted silver. I have a magnolia tree right outside my door. And I have GOLD spray paint in the other room. I also have a beautiful new FREE trifle bowl that I’ve been itching to use. It’s ON!

I hopped up from my chair and got to it.
First, I grabbed only leaves that had already fallen. (It made me feel better than just yanking perfectly good leaves off the tree.) Then I lined them up for their gold bath:

Next, I pulled out my new trifle bowl.
We found each other at a church Free Swap. I brought some items I didn’t need, and I left with this lovely. I had been wanting a trifle bowl, and there she was all ready for me.
I arranged the gold leaves in my bowl, and it took some patience at first. Everyone kept sliding and moving and Grrr! So I grabbed the painter’s tape and fixed that issue right then and there.
Then I poured in some sand I collected from the beach. (Ahh. I love the beach.)
I shoved a candle in the middle and removed the tape. A bit of raffia ties the natural look all together.
(P.S. I know it’s a  bit of a fire hazard. I’m on it.)
Next came the super cool, super CHEAP fall wreath I snagged at a thrift store this past winter. I found it on a random shelf not being displayed very well. That’s why it’s good to dig, dig, dig. It’s amazing the cool things you find.

And the deal?

$2.92 down from $39.99 Brand New. AWESOME!
I originally planned to use the wreath on my front door, but once I realized how great it would go with my trifle bowl, there was no turning back. I placed the wreath down first and then added the bowl to the middle.
I tied raffia to two cute candles on coasters and added them on either side.
Setting the table was the final step. My rattan place mats and white everyday dishes now look a little more sophisticated with the addition of an extra gold leaf.
Beautiful!

And everything you see here were items I already had.
Love it.

A few more pictures for ya…

And before and after shots:

Love me some fall!!!!

Super cute! The trifle bowl gives everything juuuust the right mount of height to avoid having your 'goods' obscured by the wreath. And I love love love the magnolia leaves – especially on the place settings! Great job!
