Welcome Home, Free Stylin’: A New House Tour

Howdy, Y’all!! ;) We’ve made it to Texas!
Thanks so much for being patient with me while Free Stylin’ was on hold during our move. It’s been weird not posting! I’ve missed it! The last few weeks have been a whirlwind to say the least, and now things are starting to slow down a bit…thank goodness!
The unpacking is almost finished (halleluja!), and now comes my favorite part: the decorating. :) It’ll be a little while before things are where I want them to be, and I’m sure I’ll be tweaking for months to come, but I’m thrilled to bring you along for the ride as I call this new house home.
Speaking of my new house, wanna see it? I’ll show you some pictures that I took the day we pulled up. It was my first time to see the home in person, and I love it even more now that I actually get to live in it. My older sister is a Realtor®, so she was my eyes when looking for a home. She gave me an awesome site to use to look for homes using very specific criteria, and when I found this one, she went over and checked it out for me. This saved me a house hunting trip, which was a blessing for sure.
K, so here are pictures of the new “crib.” Ha! I think I’m so street. ;)
I will have to put in a little disclaimer, though: some of the pictures aren’t the best because I had to quickly snap them before we lost the sunlight. Sit back with some popcorn and a little Diet Dr. Pepper and take a tour with me!

The front:
My cute boys are eager to get inside!
As you walk in, there is a formal living and dining room.
The stairs and floor are what originally drew me to this house.
Beautiful!!

You can see the playroom above:

I seriously love the fireplace!

An upstairs loft we’ll be using as a playroom:

They love it even before the toys are unpacked!

This is my favorite picture. It captures exactly what I hope this house will be for us: a place for my sweet boys to grow up. :)

I’m excited to get the rest of the unpacking completed, to kick the decorating up a notch around here, and to start some new projects.

But maybe a little dinner @ Rudy’s first. :)

Couple of Moving Pictures…

Thank you all for your sweet comments and well wishes for our big move! We are excited for this new adventure. It’s coming too slow and too fast all at the same time!

Some of you asked: We are moving to Texas. I am from there, and the Hubs and I have lived there most of our married life. The last three years in Florida have been a dream – really. Beaches, palm trees, warm weather, yummy seafood, sweet people. I will be sad to leave, but glad to be going home.

I thought I’d quickly share a few cute pics of the CRAZY that is my kitchen today. Enjoy!

Living Room Reveal…and Some Changes

Okay!! Today is THE big day: The Living Room Reveal!!!
I’m thrilled to show you the before and afters of my living room makeover. Back in January I realized that my cute red room was feeling a little heavy, and I wanted to lighten things up a bit. I put myself on a $30 budget and got to work!

May I present…My Living Room!

Surprisingly the only one I have at this angle!)
After:
My goal was a light and airy look; nice enough for guests, but family friendly, too. And that is exactly what I feel now when we walk in here. Love it!
Now, there are two areas of this room that I haven’t blogged about and still want to tweak: the sunburst/flower above the television and the window treatments. These two projects, which should have been the easiest, have LITERALLY taken me this entire time to figure out.
I saw The Nester’s Sunburst Mirror and fell.in.love. The ingredients are 4 poster boards, a mirror, and hot glue (my total was $9). She did an incredible job, and has an easy tutorial, so check her out on what to do.
Mine is a bit…hmmm…I’m not sure. I want to love it, and I will – someday. There is just something that is not quite right, in my eyes. I have literally taken it apart multiple times, cut it, reshaped it, re-glued it, maybe cursed at it, and finally hung it on the wall to see what was really bothering me about it. I’ve gotten compliments on it, so that makes me even more confused. I’ll have to live with it awhile to see what’s troubling me.
And did I mention The Hubs ran over the mirror with the car?! It was in the garage drying after a little spray paint. I don’t know how the glass survived, but it did. There was just a small piece I had to glue back on. Crazy!
My other issue is with the curtains. I have hung and rehung and hung them some more, but there is not a &$@^# thing I like! (Shakes fist in the air!) I wanted a light and airy layered window covering, so I grabbed some white sheers from my closet I’d bought years ago to add to the drapes already on the windows. I tried rods…nope. I tried tacks. Nope. I tried only white. I tried only the silk ones. All ideas: two thumbs down.
So here is what they look like today:

Yes – two totally different treatments on each window.
And guess what? This is how they are going to stay…because…..
We have a change of plans. :)
The Hubs has been offered a new awesome position that
requires us to MOVE!!
Yep. We are moving.
How’s that for a new living room?!
No wonder I can’t figure out what to do! So I think my solution to the drapes and mirror is to pack them up. And I’ll figure it out when we get to our new home.
So…the Living Room:

And the cost break down:

I’ve linked each project to their post if you’d like to go back and see the transformation.

And even though I have to take it all down and pack it up, I’m excited to see how everything will go in the new place.
I have decided to post only occasionally for the next few weeks while we pack and move. Please bear with me! I WILL be back! I really hope you stay tuned for more Free Stylin’ and see how things evolve. Already there are some super cool things I want to do in our new home so get ready!!
