K so I have a bajillion DVDs that have some sort of scratch or skip or otherwise “issue” due to “overhandleling” by my cute kidlets. Ahhh, someday I’ll look back on this and smile.
Today I don’t.
Cuz that’s $$$ down the drain, right?
Not so fast.
I recently Googled how to fix DVD scratches, and up came the most easy, awesome, FREE (if you care about your dental health…please say you do!) fix:
TOOTHPASTE!!!
And it totally works. Here’s the short and sweet play by play using my **favorite workout video:
See my friend, Ellen Barrett, there? Well, she had a little scratch that would cause a skip in the DVD during my workout. Hate that. Luckily I had the section memorized, but still. Pretty frustrating.
I just grabbed a tube of toothpaste, added the same amount I’d use to brush my teeth, and rubbed the paste in circles around the back of the DVD.
A quick rinse with water, a little dry with a towel, and we were set to get our Pilates on again! I was THRILLED to see no skipping – not even a hint of one – during the workout. SO happy.
(That’s me smiling. This is me smiling and sweating: ’:) )
Now I’m on a mission to try it with all of those annoying kid-friendly DVDS I thought were ruined. Um, yay! ??? I think.
There. you. go. Free Fix. Keeps your DVDs in working order, and they’re minty fresh (which, let’s be honest, DVD’s are a bit lacking, am I right?).
**A little info on my video: I love it!! first and foremost. It’s my go-to workout when I 1.) don’t feel like exercising, 2.) want to see results fast, and 3.) want to either challenge myself or need to take things down a notch that day. To me, Ellen is easy to follow and is a natural at giving calls and directions. The workout is great for all workout levels. I am up to doing most of the Level 3s, but there are still some 2s that are even too challenging. (Those helicopters and push-ups in planks kick my trash!) I bought the DVD at Wal-mart for under $10 a few years ago, and now you can find it on Amazon HERE. Wow! It’s $5 bucks now! Awesome! Let me know if you get one, and if you like it!! (By the way, she did not pay me to say this…she has no clue who I am, but I would LOVE to take a class from her. Ellen Barrett, give me a call!)

I first tried toothpaste last year..lol..but for some odd reason it works on some but not others…
…Using the same method as above it seems to handle the deeper scratches better
I have discovered the same amount of creamy peanut butter, same technique works in a pinch too.
But I have to say the oddest CD/DVD home remedy for scratches would be my St Ives Mineral Clay Firming Mask…YES the green-turns white-ish and hard as it dries Clay Mask
I hope this helps…I love your blog….and am looking forward to reading more
Such AWESOME news! You are so brilliant! I bet this would work on all those DVD’s we get from the library that skip and leave me with sad/disappointed kiddos. Good call! Also, always looking for a new DVD to float in the rotation. I am sure I’m going to need help loosing this baby weight come fall, since I don’t happen to be a celebrity who’s body “magically” transforms after childbirth. Thanks for the great tip! oxoxo
I’m SO doing this today on a favorite music CD I’ve been thinking of upcycling
thanks for the tip!
