Hello Hello! I’m back to share some updates in the Master Bedroom! This makeover has been such a great thing. I am so in love with all of the changes going on in here. Today I wanted to show you a little area I spend a lot of time in. Apart from the time I’m asleep in my bed, this is where I log the most hours when I’m in my bedroom.
Remember my hideous “before” pictures? Well, the spot I’m talking about is on the right, under the 5 small pictures on the wall.
We’ve created a little sitting area there using a super comfy recliner that my cute Grandma no longer needed.
I have plans to recover the chair, but it will take some sewing. Which, to me, is like eating Oreo’s while brushing your teeth…not a great idea. Sewing doesn’t work out too well for me. But I will attempt it. Just not today. Today I have a soft throw covering it to tone down the dark maroon going on.
I also added a cute pillow. It began it’s life as a placemat at Target (part of their Threshold line).
I cut a hole in the seam in the back and stuffed it with batting like I did HERE. The hole was hot glued shut, which is my kind of sewing. The great part about this pillow? 5 Bucks baby!
We needed a table here to put things on like a lamp, baby bottles, and books or magazines. The Hubs likes to watch shows on Netflix on his tablet here, too. To keep the bedroom makeover cost as low as possible, I grabbed a small side table that was in the family room to use in this spot.
(Hmmm. I’m just realizing that we rearranged the furniture in the family room quite awhile ago but I haven’t shared it here. I like the arrangement so much better! I’ll show y’all the switcheroo soon.)
The table was from Ikea, and I bought it about 4 or 5 years ago when I was pregnant with J. (I’ve looked online, but I can’t seem to find it anymore…although it may still be in the store.) It was a honey colored wood tone that used to match some of our other furniture, but not so much anymore. So I decided to give it a little glam update…
I painted it the same color, Swiss Coffee by Benjamin Moore, as I did my desk/nightstand. It’s white, but not a shocking, blinding white.
The table got 3 coats of paint, and then I added two or three coats of a metallic craft paint to give it a little sparkle. (Martha Stewart’s Pearl. Nope, this isn’t a sponsored post…) It’s the closest color match I have found to the paint color we used to stencil the powder bathroom.
Here’s how the table turned out.
I absolutely love the pearl sheen it gives the table. Just a hint of glam.
We also wanted to use the lamp that was already in our bedroom for this space. The only problem? The lampshade was a few years too ugly. Super out of date, way too tall. I bought it at an estate sale when Pickle was a baby, and I always intended to buy a new shade. It only took me 9 years. Here’s the lampshade before:
When I worked with Autumn on the plans for this room, she said to take the shade down about 25%. I actually measured the shade to get 25% and then shopped around. It took two or three tries to get the right shade, but I finally found this one at Garden Ridge for about $14.
So much better! Why do I put stuff off like that? Do you put off making small changes, too? Please tell me I’m not the only one!
I would still like to put a little art on the wall in this area, like maybe the pictures I had before or something, but I want a shelf. And I am trying to find one in my price range (remember, people, my price range is not normal. I am so
cheap budget-friendly.) So for now, this is how things are in this little corner of our room.
And here’s my usual view. The Hubs and I spend so much time in this chair feeding the baby and rocking him to sleep. It’s a sweet spot in our home that makes me feel peaceful. I also love to read, and this is the perfect place – away from the noise of the rest of the house.
All that’s missing is a little diet Dr. Pepper.
Where’s your favorite quiet spot in your home?
