1. How long have you been together? How did you two meet?

Andy and I actually went to high school together in College Station, TX! He’s older and always had a girlfriend, so we were not friends in high school. In high school, I was on the gymnastics team with 2 of his best friends. We officially met while he was living with those 2 guys in college. They would come to a bar where I worked for pint night on Thursdays. We hung out in a big group for a few years before we even started dating. We were “exclusive” as of 1/11/2006. That’s 7 years!  We got married on 2/22/2012, almost a year ago!

2. How did he (or you!) propose?

He moved to FL in August 2012 knowing I was not going to move with him if we were not engaged. He was sad and lonely in Florida, so he flew back within the month to ask me to marry him! NOT. ha! That’s what I was wishing would happen every day until he finally asked me in October 2012 :)  The true story is that he did ask for my hand in marriage in August, before he moved, but between getting the ring made, another friend’s wedding, and a plane ticket back to Austin, the proposal did not happen until October 2012. Funny story, he was going to ask me to marry him on the South 1st bridge in Austin, but it smelled like bat poop… so he quickly changed locations to the Palmer Event Center!

3. What was your wedding like? Any funny, special, or crazy stories about your big day?

Wedding was SUPER simple. We had 4 people in our living room on 2-22-2012, which was a Wednesday evening! It was our happy day :) Lots more about our wedding HERE.

4. What do you love to do together?

We love being outside! In Florida, we went to the beach all the time. In Austin, we love to mountain bike at Walden Creek, run/walk around Town Lake, hike the Green belt, and grill out with friends! We also both love to travel!

5. What’s your favorite thing about him? What’s his favorite thing about you?

Favorite? Hmmm… he’s pretty wonderful… if I do say so myself :) He’s kind, gentle, passionate, and very thoughtful. One of things I love most about Andy is that he is a GREAT listener and communicator in general.  I asked Andy  what is favorite things about me is, he emailed me a very sweet answer, “One of the things I love most about Jamie is her beautiful smile. Her pretty face radiates happiness that shines in a room like warm afternoon window. It’s as if her smile is connected directly to her heart so one can see her beauty from inside out with just a glimpse. “  He also added a disclaimer (that was not as sweet), “But buyer beware because a contagious smile is not the only expression her face is capable of creating and her other expressions are equally as powerful but with a much different result.”

Oh my gosh, so cute, right? I love what Andy said about Jamie, too! :) What a sweet couple! Thanks, Jamie and Andy!

Quick Tip: Tie Rack Jewelry Organization

Hello Hello!! I hope this week is treating you well! I have been able to cross a few things off my To Do list this week. Love that feeling!!

One of those things was some much needed jewelry organization. My previous necklace and bracelet holder broke, and that was driving me crazy!! I’ve been on the lookout for something new to keep my jewelry in, and there are plenty of pretty containers and jewelry boxes out there to choose from. But I wanted each piece to have its own place, without getting into a big, tangled mess.

So the other night I was wandering The Container Store and came across this tie and belt rack. It was on sale for $6.99. Perfect for keeping my necklaces separate but still all together! And the price was nice, too. Yay!

Jewelry Organization

There is a blank space on my closet wall that was just the right size, so I grabbed a hammer and hung up the rack with two nails. Then the necklaces and bracelets were each given their own hook.

Jewelry Organization

Hooray! Now I can see what I have, and it’s easy to get to. No more grabbing a necklace only to have to stop and untangle it.

Jewelry Organization

(Notice the flower bib necklace on the very end on the left? Learn how to make one HERE!)

Above the necklace rack hangs a DIY Earring Holder I made a few months ago.

Jewelry Organization

I love it because it keeps my earrings organized, and I know when I need to keep a keep my eyes open if one is missing. (Can you spot the single earring? Let me know if you find the other one, K?)

Using the tie rack to organize jewelry reminded me that sometimes it just takes a little looking “outside the box” to solve my storage issues.

Not Your Ordinary Chocolate Covered Strawberries

Not Your Ordinary Chocolate Covered Strawberries

K, so it’s no secret that I am IN LOVE with chocolate covered strawberries. If I could go back in time, I would add chocolate covered strawberries to my wedding cake. They are my fave. And I will eat them in any way, shape, or form they come in. Last year I showed you how to make traditional strawberries here. This time around, I thought I’d offer two more options when making my favorite treat. (So you can make them for me for the people you love.)

Option 1 is a chocolate covered strawberry candy, and Option 2 is an inside-out chocolate covered strawberry. Or a strawberry covered chocolate. :) Either way you say it, it’s still yummy!

Here are the things you need for both:

Not Your Ordinary Chocolate Covered Strawberries

*heart shaped silicone ice cube tray (for Option 1) I found mine in a 2 pack for $3 at Target. Michael’s and Wal-mart also had some.

*strawberries

*chocolate (I use Dolci frutta)

To make the chocolate strawberry candies, melt the chocolate according to the instructions on the container. While it’s melting, slice strawberries. Working in small sections (not the whole tray at once!) add a small spoonful of chocolate to the bottom of a silicone heart. Tap the air bubbles out. (This will also help the chocolate to spread out and cover the bottom.) Place a piece of strawberry on top of the chocolate. Cover with more chocolate. You may have to tap out the air bubbles again and allow the chocolate to spread some more. Put the ice cube tray in the fridge for about an hour or two. Thanks to the silicone, each chocolate should pop out easily.

P.S. I have a fun kid’s craft idea using the second silicone heart tray! Check back this week for that!

To make Option 2, the inside-out strawberries, use a paring knife to hollow out a hole in each strawberry. Melt the chocolate according to the container’s instructions. Scoop the melted chocolate into a baggie, close the top, and snip a tiny corner off at the bottom to create a piping bag. Pipe the chocolate into each strawberry. Stand the strawberries upright until the chocolate has fully hardened. (I used an ice cube tray. A muffin tin also works, as well as a very clean egg carton.) These strawberries were put in the fridge, as well, to speed up the process.

This is what the inside of the chocolate strawberry candies look like. Seriously – so yummy.

These candies can be shared…or eaten alone. :)

Who wouldn’t want a yummy Valentine like this? You’ll want to serve them as soon as possible because chocolate covered strawberries usually only keep fresh about a day or so.

And a little Free Stylin’ behind the scenes. Note to self…put away the chocolate before the three year old finds it, digs in without asking, makes a big mess, and has to have a teary, chocolate faced time-out.

Don’t feel too bad for him. He got a couple of strawberries after. ;)

What’s your favorite Valentine’s Day treat?

Pink

<3 pink?

K, so my favorite color is pink. I love it. I love it so much that I actually had morning sickness with the color pink when I was preg with J because I wore it all the time!

With Valentine’s Day around the corner, I thought I’d showcase a few of my favorite things…

in pink.

I have always wanted the guts to have pink hair like Gwen Stefani. (For my birthday last year, I did get a pink streak put in my hair for a few weeks. I felt pretty sassy.)

My all time favorite pink lip gloss:  Bare Escentuals Buxom Lips in Trixie (found at Sephora and Bare Minerals stores)

I think we may need a little more pink in this house…in small doses, of course. Starting in the master bedroom. I want this closet:
